| "Any truly creative work should be a revelation to the beholder, an extension of his experiences of life, not a confirmation of what he already knows." (Ronald Bloore, from an information panel at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa) Ronald Bloore was born in 1925 in Brampton, Ontario. During the course of his education he studied art and art history in Canada, the United States and England, and received a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Toronto and a Master of Arts at Washington University. Ronald Bloore accepted the position of director of the Norman Mackenzie Art Gallery in Regina in 1958, reaching a major turning point in his life. He quickly emerged as one of Canada’s most dynamic art gallery directors, exhibiting contemporary Canadian art. In 1960, Bloore mounted an exhibition of works by four local artists and himself, all of whom created art that was non-representational and experimental. They were given the name The Regina Five, and drew nation-wide attention when the show was picked up by the National Gallery of Canada in 1961. They were: Ronald Bloore, Ted Godwin, Ken Lochhead, Art McKay and Douglas Morton.
